Hydrotherapy for Aged Care & Elderly Mobility

Hydrotherapy for Elderly & Aged Care in Brisbane

Getting older does not have to mean giving up on movement. At Hydrotherapy Studio in Underwood, physiotherapist Ben Strachan leads one-on-one aquatic sessions for older adults. These sessions are designed for people who find exercise on land painful, difficult, or simply not an option. Whether you are managing osteoarthritis, recovering from a fall, or dealing with stiff joints — warm water therapy is a gentle, safe way to rebuild strength, ease pain, and move with more confidence.

Age should never stop you from staying active

We Understand the Challenges of Getting Older

As we age, everyday tasks can become genuinely hard. Walking to the shops, getting up from a chair, bending down — these things take effort. Pain in your knees, hips, or back makes every step harder. A gym or walking on hard pavement can feel impossible. Your doctor may have told you to keep moving. But that is easier said than done when movement itself hurts. You are not alone. This is exactly why Hydrotherapy Studio exists. Ben Strachan built this practice for people who need to move but struggle to do so on land. If you are an older adult — or caring for one — you are in the right place.

Gentle on the body — powerful for your recovery

Why Hydrotherapy Works So Well for Older Adults

Warm water hydrotherapy is one of the safest forms of exercise for older people. When you step into our heated pool, the water reduces the load on your joints by up to 80 percent. That means you can walk, stretch, and strengthen with far less pain than on land. The warmth relaxes tight muscles and eases morning stiffness. It also improves circulation — all things that matter more as we age. Sessions are tailored to the most common concerns for older adults. These include hip and knee pain, lower back stiffness, balance and falls prevention, post-surgical recovery, and general deconditioning. Every program is built around what your body needs right now. A qualified physiotherapist guides you from start to finish.

Safe, supported, and designed for your comfort

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first visit is straightforward. Bring your swimwear, a towel, and any referrals you have. There are private changing facilities on site. Your first appointment takes place in the water. Ben will ask about your history, current mobility, pain levels, and what you would like to achieve. He will then guide you through gentle water-based exercises suited to your body. You will leave with a personalised hydrotherapy program to work from going forward. Our pools include underwater treadmills, accessibility ramps, hoists, and gentle stairs. Getting in and out is safe at any mobility level. Sessions are available in 30, 45, or 60-minute formats. You do not need to be a swimmer. No referral is required to get started.
