Hydrotherapy for Sports Injuries

Hydrotherapy for Sports Injury Recovery in Brisbane

Being sidelined by a sports injury is frustrating — watching your fitness decline while you wait for your body to heal. At Hydrotherapy Studio in Underwood, physiotherapist Ben Strachan uses aquatic physiotherapy and our underwater treadmill to help athletes and active people recover faster and return to sport sooner. Whether you are dealing with a ligament tear, muscle strain, stress fracture, or post-surgical rehabilitation, water lets you start moving again before land-based loading is safe.

Get back in the game — recovery starts in the water

How Sports Injuries Affect Your Life

A sports injury does not just affect your body — it disrupts your routine, your mental health, and your identity as an active person. Forced time away from training, watching teammates compete without you, and the slow grind of land-based rehabilitation can be demoralising. The fear of re-injury often lingers long after the tissue has healed, and the loss of cardiovascular fitness during recovery makes returning to sport even harder. Many athletes find that traditional physiotherapy alone is not enough to bridge the gap between injury and full return to performance.

Train your body while it heals

How Hydrotherapy Helps with Sports Injuries

Water allows early mobilisation — you can start walking, running, and exercising in the pool weeks before those activities are safe on land. Our underwater treadmill lets you retrain your running gait with adjustable speed and reduced body weight, building confidence and correcting compensatory movement patterns. Water resistance provides eccentric and concentric loading without impact, strengthening injured tissues while protecting them from re-injury. You can maintain cardiovascular fitness throughout your recovery, so when you do return to land-based training, you have not lost months of conditioning. Ben designs sport-specific aquatic programs that progress from early rehabilitation through to return-to-sport readiness, working with your land-based physio or coach if needed.

Faster recovery, stronger return

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first session begins with an assessment of your injury, movement patterns, and fitness goals. Ben will design a program that keeps you training in the water while protecting the injured area — typically combining cardiovascular work, strength exercises, and sport-specific movement patterns. You’ll leave with a laminated copy of your program to follow between sessions.
