Hydrotherapy for Arthritis & Joint Pain
Hydrotherapy for Arthritis and Joint Pain in Brisbane
If arthritis or joint pain is making everyday movement difficult, you are not alone. At Hydrotherapy Studio in Underwood, physiotherapist Ben Strachan leads one-on-one aquatic sessions designed to reduce pain and restore movement — even when exercising on land feels impossible. Whether you are managing osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, waiting for a joint replacement, or told that surgery is not an option, warm water therapy could be the turning point you have been looking for.

Moving hurts — but water changes everything
We Know How Much Arthritis Affects Daily Life
Getting out of a chair, climbing stairs, walking to the letterbox — things that used to be automatic now take real effort. You have probably been told to keep moving, but every step on hard ground sends pain through your knees, hips, or ankles. At Hydrotherapy Studio, this is exactly who we work with every day. Physiotherapist Ben Strachan founded this practice for people who need to move but struggle to do so on land. Whether you are waiting for a joint replacement, been told surgery is not suitable for you, or simply trying to manage day-to-day, you are in the right place.

You deserve to move without dreading every step
How Hydrotherapy Helps with Arthritis and Joint Pain
Warm water hydrotherapy is one of the most effective forms of rehabilitation for arthritis and joint pain. The buoyancy of the water reduces the load on your joints by up to 80 percent, which means you can walk, stretch, and strengthen with significantly less pain than on land. The warmth of the pool also helps relax tight muscles, ease stiffness, and improve blood flow to inflamed joints. Sessions at Hydrotherapy Studio are tailored to your condition — whether that is osteoarthritis in your knees or hips, ankle or back pain, or rheumatoid arthritis affecting multiple joints. You do not need to be a swimmer. Ben works with you one-on-one in the water, develops a personalised program, and adjusts it as you progress.

Less pain. More movement. Real results in the water
What to Expect at Your First Appointment
Your first visit is straightforward. Bring your swimwear, a towel, and any referrals you have — there are private changing facilities on site. Ben will begin with a brief consultation in the water to understand your condition, your pain levels, and what you want to achieve. From there, he guides you through gentle exercises tailored to your joints, using our private heated pool. The pool is 1.2m deep and is accessible via ramps, stairs, and a hoist — so no matter your mobility level, getting in is easy. You will leave your first session with a personalised hydrotherapy program ready to follow. Sessions are available in 30, 45, or 60-minute formats.
