Hydrotherapy for Chronic Pain

Hydrotherapy for Chronic Pain in Brisbane

If chronic pain is making it hard to stay active, you are not alone. At Hydrotherapy Studio in Underwood, physiotherapist Ben Strachan leads one-on-one aquatic sessions designed to help you exercise comfortably — even when movement on land feels impossible. The buoyancy of warm water takes the weight off your body and calms pain signals, making exercise achievable again. Whether you have been living with chronic pain for months or years, hydrotherapy could be the turning point you have been looking for.

Chronic pain shouldn’t stop you from moving

We Know How Much Chronic Pain Affects Daily Life

When pain is constant, the idea of exercise can feel out of reach. You may have been told that staying active is important — but every attempt leaves you hurting more than before. Simple tasks like walking, standing for long periods, or getting through a full day without resting become a real challenge. At Hydrotherapy Studio, we work with people in exactly this situation every day. Physiotherapist Ben Strachan founded this practice for people who need to move but cannot tolerate the impact and strain that comes with exercising on land. Whatever the source of your pain, you are in the right place.

Warm water makes movement possible again

How Hydrotherapy Helps with Chronic Pain

Water does two things that make exercise far more manageable for people with chronic pain. First, buoyancy reduces the amount of weight your body has to bear — stepping into our pool immediately offloads up to 80 percent of the stress on your muscles and joints, letting you move more freely with far less discomfort. Second, the warmth of the water helps calm the nervous system, relax tight muscles, and ease the aching that makes rest feel like the only option. Together, these effects mean you can walk, stretch, and strengthen in ways that simply are not possible on land. Every session at Hydrotherapy Studio is one-on-one with Ben, tailored specifically to what your body can handle, and built around a program that progresses at your pace. You do not need to be a swimmer — you just need to be ready to try something that actually works.

Less pain. More movement. Real results in the water

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first visit is straightforward. Bring your swimwear, a towel, and any referrals you have — there are private changing facilities on site. Ben will begin with a brief consultation in the water to understand your condition, your pain levels, and what you want to achieve. From there, he guides you through gentle exercises tailored to what your body can comfortably manage, using our private heated pool. The pool is 1.2m deep and is accessible via ramps, stairs, and a hoist — so no matter your mobility level, getting in is easy. You will leave your first session with a personalised hydrotherapy program ready to follow. Sessions are available in 30, 45, or 60-minute formats.
